The Artist and the Process
Using fire as her brush and copper as her canvas, Monica Cielesz creates beautiful flame painted wall pieces. Monica had previously worked with leather. During the spring of 2014, a fire had torn through her house, destroying her possessions, which included her leatherworking tools. During the rebuilding period, she came across flame painted copper. After falling in love with the beautiful medium, she spent countless hours learning to produce the vibrant colors using heat. Her one of a kind designs are inspired by the Pacific Northwest's natural beauty and love of the equine spirit.
Each copper piece is textured and buffed, allowing the colors to shine brilliantly in the light. The copper is heated to bring out a beautiful array of colors. Each piece is protected with a special coating and backed with a custom wood frame. The copper piece is free of acid, dyes, or paints - only heat is used to 'paint' the colors on the copper.
